Obituary of Marguerite Arentzen
Marguerite Helen Arentzen, 98, of Moorestown, NJ and formerly Stratford, NJ passed away peacefully in her home at The Evergreens on January 25, 2018. Marguerite graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1937 and then started working at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington D.C. In August of 1945 she married Charles Christian Arentzen who shared her love of the pursuit of knowledge. She obtained a B.S. and then a Master of Arts in Library Science from Glassboro State College (Rowan University) in 1971. For over 20 years she worked as Head Librarian at Sterling High School in Somerdale, NJ. Marguerite devoted her rich and productive life to her passion for education. She sought to support and foster reading literacy in her community and church through teaching, tutoring, and volunteering. Until age 93, she was a dedicated volunteer at Stratford Public Library.
Marguerite valued her family and her faith above all else. She cherished loving, life-long relationships with her siblings. She enjoyed a brief but wonderful relationship with her husband, Charles, until his passing in 1960, after which she raised her two children. As an extraordinary mother and grandmother, she imparted countless life lessons, modeling common sense, conviction, and purpose. She was guided by her strength, determination, and faith in her Christian values. A force in her community, she was a respected leader in the Stratford United Methodist Church congregation and a trusted friend to many.
Marguerite strove to enrich her life through experiences, and she encouraged that desire in her family. She traveled to almost all corners of the world, visiting all but two continents. She loved music and frequented the Philadelphia Orchestra. Like her mother, she had an affinity for gardening, and passed along that passion to her children. Marguerite was even an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, hardly ever missing a game.
Marguerite is survived by her children Christine Arentzen Henisee (George) and Dr. Carl Edward Arentzen (Kathie Kojis), and grandchildren Geoffrey Charles Henisee, Jacqueline Marguerite Henisee, Charles Arthur Arentzen, and Clare Christine Arentzen. She is also survived by her sister Helen Berry (Harry) and devoted sister-in-law Joan Arentzen Schiller, in addition to her attentive nieces and nephews that were engaged in her life. She is predeceased by Charles C. Arentzen, her beloved sister Dorothy Judd, and her brother Herman Kohout.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and reception on Thursday, February 1st 11:30am at the Stratford United Methodist Church, 122 Union Ave. Stratford, NJ 08084. Interment will be private. The family requests that donations in her name be made to the Stratford United Methodist Church.
