Melpo Dennis Scotese Somerdale, NJ A proud Greek, and modern muse. Esteemed artist, writer, cook, and lover of cats.
Melpo was born on December 22, 1931 in Beaver Falls, PA to William and Poleny Dennis, who had emigrated to New York from Greece, in 1915.
Early loves of swimming, dancing and modeling led to a whirlwind tour of beauty pageantry. Renowned for her "Beauty and Grace" she won several titles, including: Miss Sunset Beach 1949, Walter Thorton Pin Up 1949, Miss Central Philadelphia 1950, Miss Body Beautiful 1950, Miss Beautiful Legs 1950, Miss Aquatic Beauty Queen 1951, culminating in a climb to the top ten finalists in the Miss Greater Philadelphia contest.
In 1955 she married her love, Robert Anthony Scotese. They enjoyed a long, rich life together, including co-owning and operating Robert Anthony Jewelers, traveling with a myriad of friends and family, and LIVING.
Melpo was an active member and contributor in the Greek Church and community from the early days in Beaver Falls, to the present with St. Thomas GOC. She loved God and her Church. Dennis Numerous extended family, godchildren and friends. Her lifelong companions: Anna, George, and Lola. And in Melpo's words, her "salvation and daughter": Lisa Leonetti. Melpo felt very deeply and emotionally, the love of her family and friends. To Everyone who touched her heart, she "loved you so".
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, January 26th 10am-12pm at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, 615 Mercer St, Cherry Hill NJ 08002. Funeral service 12pm. Burial following in Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church.
