Obituary of June G Hughes
It is with great sadness the family of June G. Hughes wishes to announce she has passed away on June 2, 2022. June was a very intelligent, gentle, generous and kind spirit. She loved nature, seeing and listening to the birds, a tree changing from green to gold in the fall, a new small flower in the garden in the spring. She appreciated the little things often missed in our daily lives. June had a love for reading, she was rarely without a good book close at hand. June leaves behind many, many friends, two loving daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends at shows and concerts including Ellen Carrigan, Jeane B. Hughes and Maryann Signorelli.
June has joined her lord Jesus in heaven, being a faithful Roman Catholic her whole life. June got an early introduction to her faith studying at Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia. She was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for over 40 years, singing in the Choir and attending services regularly. June passed on her love for reading by reading to the children attending St. Lawrence Catholic School.
June was married to Joseph E. Hughes (USN Veteran) for 46 years. They enjoyed being involved in their church and community, June would help with Joe's successful campaigns for local offices. June and Joe and their children traveled and enjoyed visiting new cities and areas of North America and Ireland.
June had a long and successful career working in the Federal Government for the Social Security Administration. June was a trailblazer in her role at Social Security, obtaining the position of Supervisor at a time female supervisors were unusual. June was able to use her role as supervisor and Union Representative at Social Security to mentor women coming up in the ranks, helping to lay the groundwork for a more inclusive and understanding workplace.
She was awarded numerous commendations and awards during her career and for her volunteer service in several organizations.
June lived independently for many years, June recently had enjoyed the opportunity to live with both daughters for some time. June really enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was well cared for and deeply loved.
June's loving husband Joe, and son Joe Jr. preceded her to heaven. Her daughter's Peggy, Kathy, Kathy's (Paul), Grandchildren Austin, Joe and Caroline (Brandon) and great-grandchildren Carson and Faith thank you for your prayers in this difficult time.
