Obituary of Dolores Hilton

Dolores Vivian Hilton, wife of the late Arthur Hilton, daughter of the late Otto and Mary Reid of South Philadelphia was born on August 8,1931. She grew up on Wharton Street where she attended Smith Elementary and Barrett Junior High schools. Dolores graduated from South Philadelphia High School For Girls in 1949 and was quoted in the yearbook saying "Oh my nerves", which we all have probably heard her say at some time.

She attended Morgan State College for 2 years where she majored in business. Dolores' mother Mary was in an automobile accident that left her confined to a full body cast. Always the caregiver, she left college to help with her mother's rehabilitation.

In 1954, at a church skating party, Dolores met the love of her life, Arthur. They married on June 1,1956 and moved to West Philadelphia. From that union, their only child, Gregory Arthur Hilton was born.

Dolores went to work as a processor for the Internal Revenue Service, however in 1964 she left her position and began working as a teacher's aide and a bus aid for Hamilton Elementary School. This allowed her to be home to greet her son every day from school, have lunch with him and find out all about his day. After his elementary school graduation, she went back to work at the IRS.

In 1973 the Hilton family moved to Somerdale NJ. Dolores retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1987 and her husband retired shortly after. Her days of service continued as she provided fulltime care for her grandson. It brought her great joy to spend time with all of her grandchildren.

Dolores and Arthur would go to Atlantic City quite frequently, staying for days at a time. They also went out to dinner every Sunday with family and friends. While she loved to travel, Dolores would never fly. They took many road trips to places like Detroit and Las Vegas.

She leaves her brother Donald Reid; son Gregory Hilton; grandchildren Giavonna Ingalls, Gregory Hilton, Sydney Hilton, Skylar Hilton and Mya Hilton; great- grandsons Josiah Ingalls and Jaxon Ingalls; sisters- in- law Mildred Sloan and Anne Hilton and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing and visitation on Thursday, January 17th 9-10am at New Mercies Deliverance Church, 200 Lincoln Ave, Magnolia, NJ. Funeral service 10am. Burial following in Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester.
