Obituary of John C. McGuigan
John "Jack / Pop-Pop" C. McGuigan of Stratford, NJ
May 9, 1930 - August 4, 2019 (Age 89)
Jack, age 89, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday August 5, 2019. Born to the late Joseph & Alice McGuigan in Philadelphia. He grew up with brothers Donald and the late Joseph McGuigan in Germantown & attended North Catholic High School. He later attended Seminary.
He is survived by children; Mary Alice 'Mare' McGuigan, Donna 'Don' Dougherty, Theresa (Craig) Leib, Anna Marie "Ams" (Robert) Peters, Jim (Beth) Walsh, Mary (Mark) Kilpatrick, and Kevin (Michelle) Walsh; among dozens of grand & great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his loving companion Anne "Nancy" Nelson, of whom he had shared and relished his golden years.
He is finally at peace and reunited with Catherine "Cass" McGuigan (Née Hopkins) and Faith "Moon" McGuigan (Née Mooney). Both of whom, he likely has a lot to catch up with and both of whom he is grateful to see again.
Jack was an active member of the local community and devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish – St. Luke Church. He will be remembered for his contributions as co-founder & lifetime trustee of the Camden County Hero Scholarship Foundation; founder & leader of the Holy Family Council #7800 Knights of Columbus, and Stratford Town Council Member during the early years of the town's development. He will also be honored for his service as a Police Officer in Philadelphia, PA; as well as Coast Guardsman during the Korean War. As an avid and captivating storyteller, he likely would suggest (or demand) that he be remembered for much more, however, we only know some of his stories and hope that you are able to assist us in sharing and embellishing his stories during his services.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and visitation on Thursday, August 8th 9:30-11:30am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish – St. Luke Church, 55 Warwick Rd. Stratford, NJ 08084. Funeral Mass 11:30am. Military Honors and burial following in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions, in his name, to the Overbrook School for the Blind (https://www.obs.org/get-involved/donate.cfm) and the Camden County Hero's Foundation (https://www.camdencountyhero.com/index.php?option=com_jdonation&view=donation&campaign_id=1&Itemid=151).To send flowers to the family of John McGuigan, please visit Tribute Store
